The Hungry Caterpillar 1st birthday party! This was such a cute party! Since this was the 1st birthday of the 1st baby in their family, the mom wanted to go all out for the party. When the guests entered, they were asked to sign a copy of The Hungry Caterpillar and to write a word or phrase to describe the birthday girl. This is sure to be a great keepsake, and potentially quite funny for the young girl to look back at as she gets older. The food for the party was based off of what the caterpillar ate in the book “On Monday he ate through one apple, on Tuesday he ate through two pears, on Wednesday he ate through three plums, on Thursday he ate through four strawberries, on Friday he ate through five oranges, and on Saturday he ate through one piece of chocolate cake, one ice cream cone, one pickle, one slice of Swiss cheese, one slice of salami, one lollipop, one piece of cherry pie, one sausage, one cupcake, and one slice of watermelon.” There was a LOT of food! There was food representing each item he ate and was accompanied by a sign with the corresponding line from the book. Even the water bottles had Hungry Caterpillar labels on them! The cake was a cupcake caterpillar, but of course the birthday girl had her very own smash cake that was designed to look like the artwork from the book. The birthday girl also had a #1 ribbon skirt made to decorate her highchair! Since this was a 1st birthday party, there wasn’t a need for structured games. The kids and adults alike ate to their hearts content (much like The Hungry Caterpillar), and then the kids played with all of the birthday presents while the adults chatted or played with the kids. Everyone left with full hearts and tummies, and a favor bag of gummy “caterpillars”!
